Rebels take 35-12 win over Stallions
The Thomas Heyward Rebels made big plays on both sides of the ball in a 35-12 non-region road win over the Williamsburg Stallions.
J.R. Patterson ran for 203 yards and two touchdowns, while Logan Thomas ran for one touchdown and threw to Zack Black for another. River Pender ran for 125 yards, and C.J. Cleland kicked three extra points. Zach Bond, who had a big night defensively, also scored a two-point conversion.
On defense, Jake Masters — for the second week in a row — returned an interception for a touchdown. Bond made 11 tackles and two sacks, with Timber Hexamer, Joseph Gibson, and Bruzza Pusha adding a sack apiece.
The Rebels improved to 5-2 with their win over the Stallions. Rebels defensive coordinator Mike Heath said, “We got off to sort of a slow start, but then we got going.”
The Rebels (5-2) led 7-0 after one quarter, 20-0 at the half, and 28-0 after three quarters.
Then the Stallions scored a long touchdown and returned a blocked punt for another score to make it 28-12.
“We needed to finish it off,” Heath said.
The Rebels did just that. After recovering the ensuing on-side kick, they drove down the field, and Patterson ran for his second touchdown of the night to make it 35-12.
The Rebels, who are 1-0 in SCISA Region 2-A , close out their season against three region opponents. This Friday they host the Dorchester Raiders, who are also 5-2 overall. The Raiders are 1-1 in the region.
