Manafort, Gates indicted in first charges from Russia probe

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump’s former campaign chairman, Paul Manafort, and a former Manafort business associate, Rick Gates, were indicted Monday on felony charges of conspiracy against the United States, acting as an unregistered foreign agent, and several other financial counts involving tens of millions of dollars routed through offshore accounts.

Ridgeland Fire Chief Bradley Bonds said once he arrived on scene after 8 p.m. Saturday, he saw a pickup truck had collided with the back of a trailer carrying people on a hayride.

Six people were injured in a two-vehicle accident involving a hayride around 8 p.m. Saturday in Ridgeland, according to Jasper County Fire-Rescue Public Information Officer Richard M. Hughes.

FCC chair to work with Congress on prison cellphone issues

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — The chairman of the Federal Communications Commission said he’s willing to work with corrections officials, telecom companies and the FBI to combat cellphones in the nation’s prisons.

Sheriff: Crack cocaine, marijuana, pain pills seized

The Jasper County Sheriff’s Office said it received complaints about narcotics allegedly being sold from a Ridgeland residence.

Photo courtesy Jasper County Sheriff’s Office Cops seized 4.5 grams of crack cocaine, 11 grams of marijuana and 90 assorted pain pills. Three suspects were charged, according to the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office.

State reviews election complaints

The South Carolina State Election Commission said it has reviewed written allegations from Jasper County voters concerning the Jasper County Elections and Voter Registration Board and on Monday sent recommendations to the county’s election board to correct issues addressed in the letters.

Airport runway contract approved

Councils from around the county met last week and approved several projects. One of the projects approved by Jasper County Council involved construction of an airport runway.
