Community fights cancer, helps others
The community did its best this fall to help others and raise money to fight cancer.
Community members participated in the Lee Lawn Service Okatie Cancer Walk at St. Luke Baptist Church and the Pink Diamond Missionary Society took a trip to Niagara Falls to raise money for families fighting cancer.
The 40 people who made the trip also donated $30 to fight cancer. Combined, the efforts raised $2,700 for families.
In November, the Lowcountry Crew of Jasper and Beaufort counties delivered 140 free Thanksgiving meals for those in the Okatie area.
The goodwill continues March 10 when Pink Diamond plans to hold its annual Sweetheart Ball that honors women with cancer and cancer survivors.
