Get emergency notices with Nixle
There’s another way to get instant information.
Jasper County Emergency Services is utilizing Nixle as a public information notification system. The free system expands Jasper County’s messaging outreach for its citizens and visitors, Garrett Lucas, Jasper County Fire-Rescue Public Information Officer, said.
Nixle offers notifications through text messaging, emails, and pre-recorded messaging to a landline phone. Residents are encouraged to visit the Nixle website at www.nixle.com to enroll or text 888777. A pre-recorded messaging service will be used during significant events.
Nixle was first used by the county in the days before Hurricane Irma. Since then, the system has received notice of approximately 6,000 people enrolled in the service.
Up to five zip codes of notifications can be used.
Emergency Services also gets the word out via Facebook and Twitter. It also encourages residents to enroll in Smart911. Residents can create a profile that allows the 911 center to view key information provided by the caller.
Enrollment at www.smart911.com is free.
