Both Thomas Heyward basketball teams left Savannah last Friday night with 8-1 records.

Golden Warriors eye first playoff appearance

When Zach Doe’s 12-yard touchdown run and Reco Anderson’s two-point conversion Friday gave the John II Golden Warriors a 28-26 double overtime victory over the visiting Colleton Prep Warhawks, it was more than winning a football game. It was the culmination of a mission.

Tremendous THA: 5 wins in a row for Rebels

Thomas Heyward’s 37-0 shutout of the visiting Dorchester Raiders last Friday was a game where everything went right from the get-go. On the game’s first play, the Rebels got going when Logan Thomas hit Bobby Payne for a 67-yard touchdown and a 7-0 lead.

In the second quarter of Ridgeland-Hardeeville’s 53-12 home loss to the Hilton Head Seahawks, Derald Nelson hit Jertaveon Smalls with a 27-yard pass to the Seahawks 7. Two plays later — with the Jags down 7-0 — Freddie Aiken ran 3 yards for a touchdown to make it 7-6.

After 1st loss, Jaguars hope to get back on track

In the opening quarter of Ridgeland-Hardeeville’s 48-12 loss Friday to Colleton County, the Jaguars played like a team that was going to win. The Class AAA Jaguars had a 3-0 record entering the game and they took a 6-0 lead into the second quarter.

Ridgeland-Hardeeville rolls past Estill, 47-0

In the first quarter of the Ridgeland-Hardeeville Jaguars’ 47-0 victory over the visiting Estill Gators last Friday night, Derald Nelson, facing third-and-15 at his own 18-yard line, dropped back and threw to Mar’Quese Grant, who caught the ball at the 40 and ran for an 82-yard touchdown.

With 4:02 remaining in the second-ever meeting between Thomas Heyward and a Jasper County School District public school varsity football team, Ridgeland-Hardeeville High’s Jabari Williams ran up the middle, to the left, and down the sideline for a 50-yard touchdown that propelled the visiting Jaguars to a 12-8 win over the Rebels.

Co-ed flag football league keeps kids active, helps them learn the game

RHHS’s season ends at Battery Creek

Ridgeland-Hardeeville lost its season finale, 23-20, at Battery Creek last Friday night. The scoring outburst was the most for the Jaguars since their 22-12 win at Estill in August, but RHHS (2-8, 0-4 Region 8-AAA) missed an opportunity to qualify for the Class AAA state playoffs.
